Just had a message come up about electric cars on Fbook, I messaged my son in Sweden, only UK going electric. Messaged a cousin in Tasmania, only UK going electric and their petrol is half price. So what about the EU, have they charging points all over in case you want to take your new electric car abroad. Ivonne you might know about France, or are we the UK the only ones who are unable to make up their minds. Petrol, Diesel, no old cars, Electric, then oh let's go back to petrol and diesel. How are all the cars going to be disposed of and the batteries. It's like a Laurel & Hardy movie, too late scratching your head after you have all caused a problem bigger than you can cope with.

Surely you realised that all this is just Boris shouting "squirrel!" and pointing over the horizon to distract you from the shambles that is his govt's handling of covid and brexit?In the same way as announcing a massive increase in defence spending is also a distraction, but aimed at a different section of the electorate?Boris is desperate to stop you scrutinising his appalling failings and corrupt cabinet's activities. He will never have to face the consequences of failing to reach his climate targets nor the defence spending (nor the massive debts he is running up at the moment). He just wants to survive the next few years without being deposed by the tories parliamentary party, who are getting mightily sick of him

Barbara - if you look at how fast the UK has moved with electric scooters - I suspect we will all be long gone before all cars go electric.Electric scooters have been around for a few years now. Spain introduces legislation last year. Big fines if caught using them on pavements etc.Meanwhile the UK have just announce the beginning of a process that will lead to a 12 month trial with hire companies. So probably well into 2022 if not 2023 before any decisions about general use.Of course they will start fining people now there are commercial interests at stake. Why would you hire one when you can use your own?Wait latest police have started to crack down on them. Ummm coincidence???

No we're not and it's a good thing if we can save on the use of fossil fuels.  But they don't solve all pollution thanks to the wear and tear of the brakes and tyres not to mention building a car in the first place.Great step towards making economies carbon neutral but we will need to do a lot more in other areas too.This would include- more green/renewable energy- better insulation and heating in homes- far less flying (the electric plane is a distant dream)- buying far more of what we need closer to home- reducing use of plastics (also for the sake of the environment given how much of it is now polluting the oceans)- loads more - help me, Matt!

Also not only Petrol, Diesel, but also Hybrid are out. So after people have bought new hybrid now they are rubbish. Somebody is having a game with Joe Public. Or just thicko's in the Government.

Barbara in France people are given huge discounts to be able to buy an electric car, subsidized fully by the Government. We were considering  buying  one but hardly drive there now so won't be bothering. And yes there are plenty of charging points at least in major cities. Don't know about rural areas though.

Yes Matt. but are they being forced to buy electric. It will probably take 30yrs for all power infrastructure. Matt you didn't know you had to look it up.
