How I miss live performances!

Listening on the radio tonight to Renée Fleming in what's likely to be her final performance as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, it really struck home what a huge gap there is between hearing a performance like that and actually being there in the theatre.I long for the end of the Covid crisis so this, and visits with family and friends, can resume and we can get back to normal again!PS: the broadcast is available here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b088j2m1

Zoom if ok for business meetings and poresentrations or a catch up with friends and families but like the internet in general wasn't really designed for the arts, although YouTube, Netflix, Prime, etc do well for entertainment. Still, needs must, I suppose …

I always have a schedule of performances to see each year, comedy gigs, talks at the southbank, RAH performances and it has been so sad to see them all cancelled this year. I did a Zoom evening listening to readings and talks from the Hay Festival which was great but not quite the same.

And the cinema, too: watching a film on the TV is OK, but it's nothing like seeing it on the big screen with a responsive audience.I agree with Michael that there are worse things happening, but sometimes the smaller things really strike home.

Yes we miss live entertainment too, whether it be going to see a rock band at Hammersmith or a tribute act at The Half Moon.

Agreed  Richard,  although we have been trying to go to those limited performances that have been put on, and had three things booked the first weekend of the new lockdown ... It's not been quite the same as a full length opera - sometimes you find out why some pieces aren't usually performed - and miss meeting friends for a drink in the interval or going for a meal afterwards, although Glyndebourne managed a picnic break in their summer open air concerts - but it's good to support these things.Still, in the grand scheme of things, it's not the worst that's happening.
