Sitting in traffic bottom of New Kings Rd, there is a H & F sign on a lamp post with a picture of a car. It said keep a safe distance etc. re Covid. So for a few moments I said to the other half are we meant to keep a car distance from the car in front in case the car gets Covid. Or are cars allowed to drive on the pavement. So now we all have to walk at 20mph on the pavement and don't overtake incase you get Covid.

Matt it's you we are disputing your post said length of car. Ed said Width.

Thank you I try my best xxxx.
I haven't noticed the signs but using cars to show instructions for pedestrians seems open to confusion ... particular as it seems one's more likely to spot them when sitting in a traffic jam than when walking down the street trying to socially distance πΆ

that's something we can agree on.

How ridiculous to use cars on such a sign anyway.Β Why didn't it just show two people with a line between them that's marked 2 metres?
i'm afraid not, the signs indicate you should keep a cars WIDTH apart, that would be two metres not four.Smart-arses 1 > Barbara 0

One to Barbara? πhttps://www.automobiledimension.com/model/ford/focus
Matt no sense of humour, yes it would be the length of a car if it was a bubble car. An average length of a car is 4metres. If we all started queuing outside Sainsbury's in Werter Rd, we would end up in Oxford Rd. Do Jane and yourself not know 2meters. Tut Tut.
it's not rocket science.
No. Matt is right. There are lots of these signs clearly pointing out that people should keep 2 metres, approx a carβs length , from other when walking. Of course on most pavements and paths thatβs very difficult.

Perhaps a tandem, how do you park a tandem in the bicycle rack? Have they thought of that.
Barbara Stevens β 2004d
Matt, possibly it may mean keep a car's width not length.Barbara you shall have to get a bike if you want to drive on the pavement :-)

Yes Bunny, but if you see somebody swerving on the pavement going bruum, bruum, get out of my way that will probably be me. toot, toot. Ha Ha.

Matt Palmer β 2004d
No Matt, I DON'T BELIEVE IT.
I think it means you should keep a cars length away from other people Barbara
