WH Smith Putney High Street

I always thought that the old Sainsbury was located next door to to WH Smith until I saw a Sainsbury signage above Smiths when they were renovating the site a while ago.I can still remember going in to Sainsbury with my nan, walking up to each separate counter and had to pay at each one, no till and the end.It was a High Street full of character, 2 butchers, John West and Manson's, Mac Fisheries, 2 Suit shops, Alexanders and Burtons, proper Bakers, Cartwrights the Jewellers (bought our engagement ring there), so many shoe shops including Chausseur Ravels. No bookmakers, no charity shops, no fast food outlets, just proper shops.Aaah bless.

Fross, I think you may have misinterpreted the sign: in the photo that Mike Fawcett of Putney Society took (I'd post it here but the https://new.putneysw15.com/ site is in the middle of one of its too-frequent tantrums, and trying to access it produces only the incomprehensible error message "The specified CGI application encountered an error and the server terminated the process") - but you can see it here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10223876801007377&set=gm.3368869626507868&type=3&theater&ifg=1.The blue and white sign partially visible at the bottom left looks initially like a WH Smith sign, but look it more closely (more than I did when I first saw it), and you can see that it says "Welcome pharmacy..." - so your original thought was correct.
