Traffic at a Standstill on Kings Rd/New Kings Rd

Tried to get the tube back from Sloane Sq. this afternoon, but there is no service between Earls Court & Wimbledon.
Got on the 22 which said Putney on the front, but service terminated  at World’s End.  I decided to walk home as the traffic is at a complete standstill. Didn’t see any 22 go past me, so I walked back faster than the bus. I know the traffic is really bad at the moment, but this was the worst I’ve seen for ages.  (I was only taking something back to M&S!)

I took my first tube journey since March today. Vauxhall to Seven Sisters and back. Not too busy and everyone had a mask on. Hand sanitizers available at both ends. And yesterday I took my first train journey - to Waterloo and back. This I did have to do during the evening rush but while busy it wasn’t packed and everyone had their masks on. What did disturb me was PHS when I got back - heaving with mask-free younger folk behaving as if they’d never heard of social distancing.  No wonder there’s a second surge.

Not if you don't want to take the tube at a time of day when everyone is returning home  from school and/or work Jonathan.Friend of mine came to meet me one afternoon last week and when he returned to Balham he said it was uncomfortably busy on his return journey.

Walk to Fulham Broadway and get the tube. That’s what I do. If you have mobility issues that’s obviously not an option but if you can walk 1/2 mile that’s the answer.

Yesterday evening it took over an hour to drive from the Chelsea and Westminster to Putney. Traffic seems to be horrific recently.

Isn't Uber now running some river services or co-running or sponsoring some of them?  I thought I saw a news item with a boat with their logo.  There has often been talk of increasing river traffic.  A bit of a problem if you're trying to go the other way by boat.

It's madness. Westbound traffic is almost deadlocked all the way from Edith Grove all the way over Putney Bridge. And also from Vauxhall Bridge all the way back to Chelsea Bridge.Going the other way Lower Richmond Road is gridlock all the way through Putney over the bridge to Fulham and beyond.It's so bad that instead of my usual 35 minute cycle commute into Westminster it's gone up as far as 36 minutes.

I suppose I could have walked to Fulham Rd and caught a 14, but have no idea what the traffic is like on that route at the moment.

Looking at a realtime app a few trains seem to be moving on the Wimbledon section although the TfL app says it's still part suspended.

Thanks for info.  Let’s hope it’s quickly resolved. I don’t think I could have walked from Sloane Square to Putney, but Worlds End to Putney was perfectly do-able on a lovely day like today. I did over 12,500 steps so it was good exercise.  Seeing the amount of traffic, I am glad I didn’t wait for another bus.

I don’t know, Michael.  It took absolutely ages to get from Sloane Square to Worlds End.  It was very strange because, in the section between Eel Brook Common and Parsons Green, there was virtually no traffic in either direction.  The traffic jam started up again after Parsons Green and I think it was because of the roadworks in New Kings Rd.  
If anyone from Putney has returned to work in central London, then they will have a nightmare journey home if, in addition, the tube isn’t working between Earls Court and Wimbledon, as per this afternoon.  Thankfully, there is still the train.

I wonder if there's any connection with the helicopter traffic over Putney? Looked like the police helicopter circling, and a Chinook did a very odd loop earlier.
