It almost covers the cost of repairing Hammersmith Bridge!!   My goodness, where is all this money coming from?  Does the description of "daring, new and popular" ideas sound slightly familiar?Total madness!

Mance's column  always raises a smile. He writes that the brainy people contemplating this decided that Festival of Brexit in 2022 might not, perhaps, be that smart, so how about Festival UK. Then realised how that might abbreviate.

Very true!!  At the same time, May have had the idea of the festival.  It does not have to be pursued today.  There is a horrible whiff of populism here....

LOL. We shouldn't be too hasty with arranging anything - surely, we'll have to wait 2-3 years for Covid to disappear completely and then it might be a wake for the UK?

I voted Remain, I lost, I have got over it and as a democrat have accepted the majority view. Even so this would be going a needless and expensive step too far, like rubbing salt into a lot of still-festering individual wounds. Reconciliation is one thing, triumphalism quite another.

It would be a start if the Festival goes better than the real thing. Will that amount of dosh actually be left in the kitty by then?
