Putney Clean Air Fair - Sunday 20th September 11-3pm

On Sunday 20th Sep from 11am to 3pm the Putney Society will be participating in the Putney Clean Air Fair next to St Mary's Church.The purpose of the event is to promote clean air initiatives in Putney including cycling - there will be opportunities to see and try out cargo bikes, e-bikes, etc.  Tips will be offered on ways each of us can contribute to cleaner air in our locality.There will be food stalls and free bulbs will be on offer for keen gardeners.The Putney Society has long campaigned for cleaner air in Putney, especially in the High Street.Other groups supporting the Fair include Wandsworth Living Streets, Wandsworth Cycling Campaign, Friends of Wandsworth Park and the Putney BID (Business Improvement District) team who are running the Positively Putney campaign so successfully.  We will be supported by many local businesses including bike shops and eco-enterprises.Our MP Fleur Anderson will be there too.The event will have the usual social distancing measures in place but we do want a good turn-out - do come along and do tell your friends about it.

A couple of local streets - Festing Rd is one - have planted sunflowers.  The fully grown ones are HUGE!

Have a go at going virtual - it is a good way to help each other with this IT business. We all have different experiences and are at different stages learning bit by bit.I was very disappointed that you did not have your front garden competition this year.One of the most uplifting sights I have seen on the streets - apart from the families all cycling together - is the little daffodils growing in the tree pits.  When the weather has been cold and it has been dark for so long it is a real joy to see these bulbs pushing through the ground with the promise that Spring is coming.  We need cheering up.Bulb lasagnes are fun and I think I'll try and make one this year.  (I say that every year.  As soon as it gets cold I attempt to hibernate.)

Can we wait until next spring?Perhaps a series of video can be created and posted.A virtual Putney Clean Air Fair!It can be shared with schools etc too.

Great shame but inevitable given the new restrictions announced last night. It will be rearranged, with luck next Spring.

However, that's a minor point now, as under the new restrictions on public gatherings just announced, the Clean Air Fair won't be able to go ahead on 20th September. Very sad, but hopefully it will be able to take place at some later date (next spring?).

This sounds brilliant.Hope you have plenty of bikes and trikes and cargo bikes etc to show that cycling is not just for those who like speed cycling.  It has been wonderful that so many families have been out cycling together during lockdown and the summer holidays.  I thought that this sort of thing seemed a good idea:https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/news/february-2020/e-cargo-bike-trial-launches-in-tooting/Last mile cycling deliveries would be a good way to reduce congestion.
