Conspiracy theory

This is nothing I've read, just thought it up all by my self :DDo you think that this is a massive exercise in social engineering, for what reason, I don't know.  But cities are suffering, people are moving out to the suburbs, people are working from home and it is becoming acceptable... lots of other things.As a teenager I loved reading SciFi novels, it's seems to be all coming true!  Living in bubbles, ordering out for supplies, keeping in touch via technology, not touching, etc, etc.Call me crazy, but everything I read in the 1950/60s is now happening!

Freddie. Religious fundamentalism is regressive, particularly if linked to education. I'm not in a position to comment on the standard of public education in the US as none of my US friends have children at school although from what's related third hand I suspect it varies depending on individual schools and state, even county.

Should one be surprised that some are willing to believe conspiracy theories? It was a great time for music but sadly a high attrition rate: not just Jim Morrison but Jimi Hendrix, Paul Kossoff, Janis Joplin, etc who misjudged the narcotics and those like Syd Barrett that just couldn't cope and went almost silent ...

LOVED Jim Morrison, there was a good documentary on TV (forget where) recently.  It was nice that they concentrated on his great talents as a musician and artist and not just his drug use.Artistic people are sensitive and I believe suffer more.

Perfectly sensible question Bunny.Recovery rates were never published - no idea why.Unfortunately the UK is unnecessarily secretive and does not always treat its citizens as adults.Perhaps because we are indeed subjects :-)

I don't think it's not real, I just wish, now that people are mainly getting infected, but not dying, that the Govt or whoever would publish some alternative figures.  For example, why not give a comparison between this and the 'flu.  Don't get me wrong, I do believe in the virus, I've been at home isolating since March!I'd just like to see a comparison between people dying of the 'flu (many do) and the virus.

It's happening globally under multiple opposing political regimes. That in itself should tell you it's not some coordinated evil plot. Unless you believe in the Illuminati and lizard people of course.

Sadly, no rational argument refuting these absurd conspiracy theories will work, because those afflicted with this unreason will simply claim that the evidence that shows their belief is wrong will be dismissed as invented by the deep state or something just as daft.

I never conclude conspiracy when incompetence provides a much more convincing explanation. 
Honestly, when you watch the hopeless, lazy, corrupt and venal shower in government today do you really think they are capable of conducting a grand conspiracy with ruthless efficiency while keeping the truth secret from the entire country and also managing to make it look like they are just muddling through?The truth is staring you in the face — they *are* this useless and we *are* being led by incompetents

My theory is that global warming was at a tipping point,  something drastic was needed.  So the virus was created to ground all aircraft,  stop factories and most car driving all around the world. A sharp intervention.Notice how sunny it was during all of lockdown?The failure in my conspiracy theory is what happens after.  Oh, and that global governance couldn't realistically be so coordinated!

I agree to a degree. A genuine pandemic however I believe the situation is being used to manipulate and engineer. Additionally it is being used to hide information and push through legislation under the radar.

Bunny, one does wonder how the government's incompetence can be so consistent. But if there is a secret plan Boris would have blurted it out quicker than you can say "herd immunity" (unless they didn't tell him :-) Sadly the truth can be even more bizarre. Many UK institutions, including the government, were simply not up to dealing with a pandemic leaving the country rudderless when we needed them most.

Yes. Well put, Nick. Sadly it's all too true. I guess it was worse in 1918 when these things were less well understood and communications were poorer?What's happening in the US at the moment seems a bit like SciFi (and a cross with the wild west). The Trump - sorry, Republican National Congress is surreal with all the Trump family appearing. I almost expected Stormy Daniels to pop up saying what a generous guy he was for paying he so much for nothing ...

Bunny, I’m afraid not. It is a real disease killing real people. It has severe economic consequences for many leading to unemployment, and until we have an effective vaccine we must socially distance despite the personal inconvenience.
