THE STAFF OF LIFE

Dropped by newly arrived Paul in PHS. Steep prices. Frome memory: Charlemagne loaf £2-80. Brioche £4-90. Whopping Pain Campagne at whopping  £8-25. Fougasse lardons £1-35. Chocolate Beignet £3. Good to see Paul here but can't help wondering whether this district will tolerate such prices.Any thoughts?

On my one visit I watched a steady stream of people buying loaves of bread. They did more business selling bread than coffee and croissants. That may be to do with the limited seating.

I am sure the almond croissants are as nice as you say, but Paul is not going to cut the mustard on croissants alone. I was left wondering about most of the other prices which seem high.

I second the 'wonderful almond croissants'  at the Bakehouse.

I went in yesterday. The almond croissants are amazing!  Great addition to PHS though my favourite is still The Bakehouse on URR. My only complaint there is that their wonderful almond croissants sell out too soon!  They still accept the Putney Society discount card at the Bakehouse and the staff are delightful.

I always use the almond croissant index.Prices seem higher but I will have to sample all for a fair comparison -:)
