Dover House Road Traffic Consultation

My household, which has been in lockup/lockdown since mid March did not receive any notification in this issue. I have signed the petition but wish to point out that there does not appear to have been any consideration given at all to the residents who hold a Blue Badge Disabled Badge in the estate and how they would be able to cope with this ridiculous idea.  Some have cars and some have badges to travel in a car and use their badge. How on Earth are people going to be collected and driven back to their home. I am going to email the Boroughs MP to find out how many people on this estate hold a Blue Badge and once I am provided with the answer then I shall let this Network know the numbers involved. I actually believe the Council have discriminated against disabled people on the estate by allowing this scheme to go ahead prior to holding a referendum.  They have done so twice in the the past few years to having a pay and display area on the Doverhouse Estate and both have been rejected by the Residents. Since much of the traffic chaos in the surrounding area has been created by the Council and TfL they should have consulted with the residents before deciding to go ahead with this awful scheme, which will only cause yet more chaos and I believe will lead local shopkeepers in ruin.

According to the letter from the Council: "The proposed measures are in response to Government guidance and Transport for London's call for local authorities to make temporary and immediate measures to reallocate road space to people walking and cycling, both to encourage active travel and to enable social distancing. The council has secured funding from the London Streetspace Plan (LSP) to deliver Low Traffic Neighbourhoods across the borough via an Experimental Traffic Order (ETO)." So, the idea comes from Central Government and Transport for London are reinforcing it with the assistance of local authorities. As you can see, WBC received funding from central government to put this scheme in place. I suspect that, as there was a request form DHERA for the closure of the road during rush hour, they are using the request to implement the road's total closure.
