TV wires and aerial connections

Please could I have a recommendation for someone to sort out all the wires and connections of my smart TV ? They are in a jumble and we are not sure what should go where - keep losing the signal and having trouble both with live and with catch up tv. Have, of course, tried to make sure connections are not out of sockets, but that is as far as our efforts can go.

That would be lovely, thank you, Paul. I have sent you a personal message (at the fourth attempt as this website kept losing it) which may look terse as I tweaked it had to be very short or it would crash.This time, nothing to do with my technical skill, honest

Old school TV used to be so easy once set up.  FIL had terrible trouble because the new digital one kept on updating so there would be a page of instructions on the screen that he couldn't read instead of a programme and the channel numbers for favourites kept changing.  Let alone the enormous number of them.  It may seem odd but there are lots of people who listen to but can't see a lot of the detail on the TV!  (It doesn't mean that they don't also listen to the radio.)

There is also an assumption on the consumer that these things work perfectly out of the box.Unfortunately with most devices these days that's becoming uncommon. I always check the forums for the specific model. You will normally find people with issues. Quite often manufacturers will address post manufacturing issues with a firmware update etc.On the plus side the price of electronic goods is incredibly cheap. Move the vat and retail markup etc and you can understand why.

Glad you've found some more options!I'd just like to point out that you do not have to be "desperately ancient" to benefit from the good works and signposting offered by Age Concern.  They helped me by finding a volunteer - incidentally from the British Legion - to guide my poorly sighted and very elderly FIL through long and confusing hospital corridors to visit his wife so that he could go there more often than we could take him.  He wouldn't take up the offer of course but it made life easier for us all that he knew the possibility was there.Too many people struggle on without making or finding out how to make adjustments.  You're as young as you feel - and I fully expect we'll be the just as determined to resist change when the time comes!

East Putney, Paul - any good? Thank you for all the recommendations - we are not desperately ancient - just not interested enough to get down to this. Sort of just remember about it of an evening when there is something we want to see. Embarrassed at our sloth. Re young people, our children are just as clueless - and watch even less TV than we do

I agree with previous suggestions but have another two:Have you Googled your particular Smart TV with the question "how to ...?"  for instance this is one answer I got when doing thatwas this:https://www.support.com/how-to/how-to-set-up-a-lg-smart-tv-10163(It has pictures of particular cables which I wouldn't have a clue about)andWandsworth has a good Age UK and Age UK is brilliant at suggesting where to go to get help for all sorts of challenges and problems such as this for instance they often have a handyman service.

I agree Ed.  But when I have a problem with my mobile for example, I ask a young person who sorts it out in no time at all!! But the request was for wires and aerial connections.  It could be that one cable is in the wrong socket, and that they can see very quickly too.

"Do you have any young people as neighbours?"It is probably the young people taking up all the bandwidth gaming :-)It may be worth resetting your router and also check to see if there are local issues reported. Is it Vigin?

Not to be rude, but unplug everything, sort out the jumble and then go onto YouTube for an explanation of what to do.  Good luck
