Eat out scheme

I thought this scheme was for places offering a dine in serviceI can see Kebab King, Papa John’s, Subway and Holy Cow so far on the list for Putney which I thought were all take out/delivery onlyOr have I got this wrong?

Its not just about immediate jobs in the restaurant. There will be supply chains and independent support services.If you look what happens when one of these chains goes down the impact is very far reaching. Jamie Oliver's chain springs to mind. Small businesses and individuals I believe were hit when his chain collapsed.From a health point of view it can be complicated especially if you look at something like salt.

I didn't say i hate the scheme nor the government (just wouldn't vote for Boris), if you read the comment it was why are large chains being part of this? With the governments drive (through cycling initiatives and the talk of banning junk food adverts) to cut the nation's obesity levels (which I support), I think the "Eat out" scheme could have been handled better. Independent eateries have had a far rough time than the chains, so why not tilt this in their favour? That was the comment I madeTim Martin of Wetherspoons fame, was all for telling his staff to get lost at the start of the lockdown, refused to pay some suppliers until a u turn and is generally a scoundrel... Why should he directly benefit from my tax pounds?

Sorry Nick I obviously had a moment and mixed you up with someone else. I am glad you are sticking by the Govt, me too.  I know some mistakes have been made but I think any colour administration would have made mistakes because of this unprecedented situation.

Only Ben Rainbow was anti the scheme, as he hates the government and most things about the UK. I didn’t mean it to anyone else. Am sure he is a millennial Sue I am about as pro government as you can get and I happy to back them despite what anyone says it won’t change me.

Sorry, above post was relating to Holy CowRE Nick, sorry i was not being anti anythingI took from the scheme that its aim was to help restuarants etc that have had to remain closed until recently, big or small business. Places like kebab shops and Papa Johns have remained open and their online delivery businesses have not really been affected and they also don't have huge overheads like a much larger restaurant does due to seating area. I have never seen anyone stop in and eat a Papa Johns, i'm all for helping people who are genuine eat in places regardless of whether they are a chain or independant

Nick. Was anyone against the scheme? I was just clarifying its coverage and noting I could understand why it would apply to chain restaurants. It's obviously about helping businesses and maintaining jobs, which is good.

I think that the idea of the scheme is to get people out again to start eating in restaurants, thus saving the jobs of those working in this hard hit sector. I have lunched at several restaurants during the last few week and all were very sparsely patronised.

According to the Beeb - HM Revenue and Customs boss Jim Harra has also warned the scheme may not offer value for money for taxpayers.

Meanwhile is there a list of independent Putney eateries where one can take advantage of the scheme? If there is, I I've missed it!

I'm all for the scheme even if I may not benefit personally but where  is the money coming from to pay for it? Just asking.

Well said Nick.  I don't think you're a fan of this Govt (correct me if I'm wrong) but you see the bigger picture and can acknowledge what they are trying to achieve with this.

Typical that’s there’s someone anti government that doesn’t think it’s a good idea to get 50 percent off a meal. I support independents till the cows come home but multiples keep staff in jobs as well!!!!’n

While no great fan of some of those chains perhaps some families on tight budgets can only afford to eat at those places? So it would be unreasonable  to exclude those from the scheme if it's going to be inclusive of all?

Bonkers that these can be used in places like McDonalds, Nandos, Wetherspoons. Should be more aimed at independents and small local chains.

This is from the government website. Take away and deliveries excluded as only for eating in. No minimum spend as it's a percentage with an upper cap. If I recall, the Kebab King has tables, think I've consumed Somme falafel, hummus and salad sitting in there.Use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme at a participating establishment:to get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner)every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 31 Augustas many times as you like

I thought it's aim is to get people back out and spending again?  There must surely be a minimum spend per person, otherwise free kebabs for all! 🥙
