Parklet on Montserrat Road

No one seems to be cleaning them, already stained with spills and grubby, also plants not being watered, my neighbour just borrowed my watering can to water one of the trees which is dying

Apologies in delay Neighbourhood Net would not let me reply using my phone. These parklets are being cleaned by Wandsworth Council contractors everyday as part of their High Street clean. Although they do have bins very close by the Council are now looking at installing bins right next door to encourage people to dispose of their litter. Sadly, we know that some people are smoking whilst sitting on them. On a positive, most people are enjoying using them and they have been a very positive addition to Putney.

Also noticed new seating in the Putney Exchange, looks different with a pretend palm tree, or something like that. The seating goes round in a circle, outside Waitrose. Somewhere else to park your backside, for all of  us getting on a bit.

Can we not get the Council to spray down these little spaces every day.  Wouldn't be wouldn't be so hard.... happens everywhere else x

Sue, please, its a little place, where there are benches and encourage people sit and have a chat to neighbours.Sometimes people are encouraged to plant a few more flowers.I see it as a happy place and the community can decide if they want to protect if or let it go to but like so many other places in London.  Come on Putneyites!!! Protect out lovely spaces !! x

Great community spirit!  Let's hope for lots more.  I notice that there is a call for Tree Wardens.  With more involvement we can all take more ownership of our surroundings.

Yes, the gent who runs the fruit & veg stall nearby  said it happened yesterday so I will not be sitting down there anytime soon. On Sunday morning I noticed an empty Gails Coffee mug left on the seat even though there is a large litter bin adjacent - it looks like we get a better class of litter-lout in Putney.

I was informed yesterday that someone defacated on the parklet outside Barclays Bank - why oh why do some people behave so? Hopefully the incident will not be repeated. Disgusting.

I did notice they have no smoking signs on them but some occupants were smoking!I have no idea where the law stands on this, does it come under an existing bylaw? Who will enforce it?

Because it's pretending that a perfectly normal word like 'parklet' is somehow posh and, implicitly, pretentious.Parklets originated in the US 15 or so years ago as "a sidewalk extension that provides more space and amenities for people using the street [offering] a place to stop, to sit, and to rest while taking in the activities of the street" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parklet).

Well done them.  All over he country residents are looking after the areas that they live and move around in.  Councils have lost so much revenue from Govt they have had to make massive cuts and both our changeable weather and Covid19 make it even more difficult.  We don't pay enough in Council Tax to have a valet system.  Isn't that the equivalent of the nanny state which the Tories rail about?
