Google Maps ~ Street View ~ Real Time

Apparently it's possible to get real time or live streaming on street view but I can't work out how to do it.  Does anybody know how to  get it please?

Looks like Putney was done last year by Google - will it be remapped this year? Probably not I suspect.Google have also some mapping bikes (one for Matt).But they are not the only company.Here cars look much the same as Google's cars.When going abroad I download Here WeGo offline maps for the appropriate region (goes back to the old Nokia 770).Google download facilities are just not reliable - they change without notice etc.

The Street View operation is quite sophisticated. The main controversy I recall was the collection of Wi Fi network details as they went around taking the images.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Street_View

Well I never knew that.  So are there 1000s of cars driving around constantly updating street view for Google? What a boring job!

street view is done by cars only I think Sue. I have no idea how you post pictures here but if you go to the link below and scroll down you can see what they look like.there used to be one parked up in a residential driveway in Putney incidentally but not seen it for a few years now.https://www.google.com/streetview/explore/

I cannot tell you how weird it was to see my sister on the literally other side of the world!!! I understand the technology, but it blew my brains out!!!  And the chances that she was there at that time when the Google car came past!!  Sometimes life is so extraordinary!!

Ha ha, as Matt says it's just an additional navigational aid when walking - with a warning not to use when driving!  Perhaps there's an alterior motive in the UK government wanting to acquire OneWeb - it's not really for the UK's GPS type system ... Big Brother Johnson will be watching us?

I don't think (and dear God I hope not) that we can spy on our neighbours in real time.  If it turns out that we can, then I will be out marching as that would be the end of everything.However, I find Google Earth absolutely fascinating. To see all the wonderful marvels of the word is a blessing.Just for fun, when my sister flew over to NZ to visit my niece and nephew and their their two little babies it was lovely.Later on I decided to Google where my niece's house was  and, lo and behold, there was my sister sitting on the front porch and having a fag!!!  Hilarious!!  what are the chances ???

Hi Ed.  Thankyou.  I already use that but they are historic static views and I was hoping there would be a live stream available, but I agree there would be huge data protection issues and it wouldn't be allowed.  Pity ...

I have android, I think all it means is that if you turn on your camera and hold your phone up as you walk it can give you directons on screen, pointing the way etc.

There are some traffic cams that may be acessed but the street views are recorded and edited to remove faces etc.They may go back to an area but on the whole they date very quickly.

That would require a level of surveillance that I think even the UK government would balk at..
