It's a fascinating region both from the geological aspect and the Roman remains. Naples itself is interesting and a good base for exploring the region by car or train; we've stayed their a couple of times - and driving in Naples is fun! Campi Flegri Is the tip of a huge mass of magma all too close to the surface. What with that and Vesuvius if either or both of them blow it would just about destroy Naples.  Several years ago I climbed Vesuvius and spent a day in Pompeii. Just fascinating!
