As the Common is now one big beer garden for the Spencer, why would the Spencer not take responsibility for the rubbish that they partly create?  They don’t pay a rent for the common, they are getting a free ride.  Would it not be equitable for the Spencer to fund the removal of the rubbish that the idiots cannot be bothered remove themselves?And why not open the Spencer toilets on a socially distanced basis, given the issue of public urination that it now so obvious.

Surely all that disgusting rubbish will now become trade wastethat the Spencer will have to pay to have removed which seems very unfair.Empty bottles are lighter to carry home and cans when flattened are reduced in volume so bins and bags won't be so full of trapped air.  Providing bigger bins unfortunately tends to exacerbate the problem by attracting even more waste.  People need to take responsibilty for themselves and their actions and take it home.  It's lighter and less effort than taking it there in the first place!

Residents and The Spencer are doing their best to help Rill the Ranger keep the Putney clean - the pub bins are overflowing with pizza boxes, Sainsbury's bags etc as well as their disposable glasses .We are trying to get more information from both WPCC and the Council as to what can be done whilst these gatherings continue on the Common - watch this space!

Pleased to say the mess has been cleared up. Lots of bags piled up by the Spencer. Well done if it was the pub who cleared up after the idiots who littered, and ditto for the WPCC if it was them (yes, I really did say that).Nick

Shocking stuff. The police just don’t have the numbers too stop these things happening. Thank goodness we haven’t had anything like that round here.

I certainly agree the pub is responsible to collecting its own waste and would be great if it can take others too. You can see from the photos that there are lots of empty beer cans, they cant be from the Spencer as they dont serve beer in cans.

@MattJust looked at Freddie's link. Truly vile. What I don't understand is why these raves were allowed to go ahead when it was common knowledge for a week or more before that they were going to take place?  The police should have stopped them, especially now when large gatherings are currently against the Covid rules. There has never been a well organised and clean and tidy rave so requesting that participants take bin bags to clear up their rubbish is a joke.

"take some of their own rubbish home with them as their bins were now full."If, and I repeat if, the sales from the pub have generated all this rubbish, surely the pub is responsible for all the potential disposal storage needed? The pub had the space to store the full bottles and cans, ready for sale. (I am not having a go at the pub. It is just a question that seems to me to have wider application).

They did actually start asking people in person and via facebook to take some of their own rubbish home with them as their bins were now full.

Presumably this is the bit of common next to The Spencer which was very busy dispensing drinks at the weekend. Perhaps they should be taking some responsibility for clearing up afterwards.
