Alternatively, with a Labour-led government we'd have had a properly funded National Care Service to look after our family members who need it. Our hospitals would be better equipped and staffed. Precarious employment practices would have been abolished and welfare support improved. The pernicious hostile environment created by the Home Office would have been wound down. Big global businesses would be paying a fairer share of tax and child poverty would have been reduced. But that's not what enough people wanted last December, so we're stuck with the present shambolic government presiding over what's been revealed as a profoundly unequal society - and more cheap jokes about Diane Abbott.
