3 Cheers For Wandsworth Council 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Listening to LBC this morning and Nick Ferrari has been talking about the build up of rubbish because of 'tip' closures, and the resultant increase of fly tipping.  Some local authorities have also suspended normal rubbish collections, therefore some boroughs have not had a collection for 5 weeks. 🙀 It's so easy to take this vital service for granted and we are so lucky in Wandsworth to have our refuse and recycling collections continuing every week as normal, so well done to WBC, and all our cheerful refuse collectors.👍🏻👏🏻

No the winter of 1978/9 got snowed in at the in laws in Northumberland and was told by  wandsworth to report if possible to the local Council up there to offer my services. As it was the yard was pretty close to dads place so reported in and they put me on snow clearance.  Spent 3 weeks up and down the A697 on a snow plough.

Apparently over 90% of recycling centres nationwide are closed whilst Councils get as many folk as possible on the bin collections. Saw on BBC news last night some Boroughs are asking office staff to help out. That takes me back.

Hopefully the HWRC's will re-open soon but there's time now to look at what you could reduce and the alternative legal ways of using/disposing of it.  It's great not having to worry about it.  It's so nice to have a kerbside collection collected by cheerful people.Now I must reorganise that wormery today!

Excellent interview on the front page with a “bin man”.  They have appreciated the recognition they have been getting. Hope the recycling centre reopens soon. And the council starts collecting garden rubbish again. Some folk have been disguising their garden waste to make sure it gets taken.
