Waitrose

I wonder if all those who stripped the supermarket shelves are those who are now taking all the delivery slots in Putney. I managed set myself up for Waitrose deliveries, filled in all the details but from 8am this morning they have no delivery slots at all. This is so frustrating as I am an ancient person who is old enough to be oblighed to avoid the supermarkets. This is not a win/win system. Can someone tell Waitrose their new system is not working for the old people who need it?

Agree it’s impossible to get a delivery date from any of the big supermarkets and I’m unsure who they classify as vulnerable but I’ve had no contact from Waitrose or Sainsburys and I’m an elderly long term customer of both I’ve now looked elsewhere at smaller companies and recently had a delivery from swfruitandveg.com they do small boxes for 1 and 8 other basic essentials. You can also donate a box for someone for £10 which is a lovely idea. Not a lot of choice but great produce and service. Worth checking out.

Elisabeth. I think you'll find that Sainsburys and other groups were given access to the NHS list of x million people who were identified as elderly, vulnerable etc etc. They matched this to their Nectar list and contacted people who were their customers on the list. They have given them priority slots etc. The "silver hour" slot 8am to 9am Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays also seems to work well.

Late to the thread but just in case anyone else checking:Can`t speak for Waitrose but Sainsbury has been sending regular email updates over the weeks inviting people recognised as `vulnerable` to contact. They already had a list of recognised regulars but apparently they have identified another 150,000 over past few days (from the Government database) so am not supposed slots are always booked.I was pretty happy to find last week that the gannets had clearly run out of steam (not food obviously), and most things were available on a Friday evening in Sainsburys.  Hopefully the panic-stricken are being comforted by their neighbours (and fridges ;) ).Happy to hear you sound `sorted` though! :)

We're very impressed with Sainsbury's, stocks are good though they didn't have everything we wanted, but the delivery people are cheery and very positive, a pleasure to have them come to the door.

Sainsbury's emailed me last week saying they'd identified me as entitled to deliveries. I have used them for delivering heavy items for several years so perhaps I'm viewed as a loyal customer. I don't recall having to provide my DOB when I first registered so Heaven knows how they selected me for preferential treatment I got a slot the next day and ordered for myself and some older friends up the road. We have another delivery coming, fingers crossed, tomorrow. I recall a recent thread disparaging Sainsbury's which, in my view, was unwarranted. The staff are helpful and the product range suits me. So, thank you, Sainsbury's.

I have had many kind offers of help, and I do have kind friends but I suppose I am rather an independent person and like to have contact with a supermarket especially as they have been set up to help the elderly at this time. I think I might be able to set up a slot with Sainsburys. I have been in contact with thembest wishes

HI SandiMy mother-in-law got an email from Waitrose saying they had identified her as an 'over 70' and she would be able to have priority in getting online slots.No such luck.  Totally impossible.  And that's having received their email.I hope your mother-in-law has better luck!

MarieI emailed Waitrose re identifying the elderly for my 92 y/o widowed mother in law who is self isolating (and not in London) this is their response:This is their response:•            We’re also taking the first steps in giving our elderly and vulnerable customers priority access to future online shopping deliveries. We’ll be doing this in a number of ways, including contacting as many customers as we can who have previously identified themselves to us as elderly or vulnerable and looking at how we can reach those on the list of vulnerable people the government intends to share with retailers. We’re doing all we can as quickly as possible, so we’d kindly ask that our customers wait for further communication from us on this.SO I assume they will email her & you to check your dofb. Hi Marie,  Just to let you know the council are operating a help scheme - contact number 0208 871 6555 or email to covidsupport@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk - they published these details on a letter circulated by hand just a few days ago (letter dated 24th March). Marie, we're registered with them, on age grounds, not underlying conditions; I don't know how they knew the ages (perhaps when I registered our Nectar cards?) but anyway, I've had no problem getting a delivery slot, so I'm sure they'll sort you out soon. They are struggling with overwhelming demand but, in my view, are actually doing rather well. Waitrose, on the other hand, seem much less efficient.An alternative: do you have anyone in your street who can shop for you? And Nextdoor (https://nextdoor.co.uk/news_feed/) is good, if you look at right-hand side of their page once you've registered with them, there's a Help map; click on View map to see who in your particular area is offering assistance.Hope this helps!

Thank you BUT I am over 80 and I have been told I must stay at home so your very kind response does not help me. I called Sainsburys this morning about your system, answered lots of questions and told I would be contacted sometime so I am waiting for that..I am still trying to get through to Waitrose in the meantime but many thanks and best wishes

Try the Silver Hour at Sainsbury’s- Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We were there on Monday and got everything we needed, no queues, well stocked shelves, nice staff.
