Hope or Freak

The official figures for those in Wandsworth with the virus have in the last week gone 20-54-79-98-107-110-113. This could either mean given the national picture a freak slowdown or a sign of hope.

With regard to metrics, due to the lack of UK testing, we can only compare using per population measures.The link below does have a Confirmed COVID-19 deaths relative to the size of the population.https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus

I know of seven friends / colleagues in Wandsworth who have had / still have symptoms (all self-isolating, of course.)  None are deemed vulnerable, so none have actually been tested.  Either the ‘actual’ figures are significantly higher or there’s another bug doing the rounds

According to Dr Allin-Khan, the Tooting MP who has gone back to work in A and E at St George's, the picture is grim. For example 'we're seeing young, previously very healthy people....needing ventilators to stay alive'. If there are not enough ventilators doctors and nurses are gong to have to make 'heart wrenching choices'. Terrible. Stay safe everyone

Good point David. However, if Russians die early because of poorer health one might expect younger Russians in there 40s or 50s to be in poorer health and more vulnerable to the more serious effects of COVID-19. But there could be other factors: do Russians travel less, drink on their own more rather in pubs, or are they doing fewer tests and attributing deaths to underlying causes rather than COVID-19? Of course, Putin and his government's track record on lying about the actual and attempted murder of spies who've defected means I wouldn't trust their statistics.However, I would beliebe the results from Korea, and Singapore, who seem to be following the science ...https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-china-cdc-exclusiv-idUSKBN21910S

It all depends on the amount of testing that is being done.  Perhaps the more that is done the more responsible people become - or does a negative test increase recklessness?  Germany seems to be coming through this with fewer cases.
