Yes they do have a private life, or certainly aspire to have one, but their announcement and their use of the publicity has inevitably made it front page news. On Martine’s point I think it gives a very strong impression of not caring that the PM has failed to visit any of the flood stricken areas. He has not even shown any interest in convening a cross-government response to the floods and if this sets the tone for the next five years one can only hope the official opposition in parliament stays as supine as it currently is for his sake. Avoiding as much scrutiny as possible and doing the minimum 1/2 hour a week at PMQs is simply not good enough when we are faced with multiple challenges: Coronavirus, financial markets meltdown, Brexit negotiations, the climate emergency and more. Being asleep at the wheel is not a good look at the best of times.
