A riot in Putney earlier today?

Apparently, there was a riot in Felsham Road earlier this afternon. A man we met said there'd been many police vans (there were still three there just now) and quite a crowd with some actual fighting. Chelsea supporters enjoying their traditional sport? Anyone know anything about this? Nothing on the news page, at least now.

Looked like about 20 police standing in Lacy Rd, 8 arrested and let out on bail, some had masks.

As the fighting involved "middle-aged men" it might have been a re-enactment group portraying the golden days of football fan violence from their youth 30 years ago?

The last pub fight I saw was in the Fox and Hounds. The live footie included Rangers v Celtic so the place was full of expatriate Scots.  Rather too lively for me!

'We have Fulham playing at home every other week and I’ve never seen a fight in a pub in Putney!'Not surprised.Have you seen the price of a glass of a good Chardonnay in Putney ?Who would waste that !!

Fighting at football matches nowadays has severe consequences which is how it should be. Jail sentences and banning orders are often given. The law has seriously cracked down and that is why it’s pretty rare nowadays luckily. Am sure the pub will have CCTV and the police often track down the perpetrators. They’ll all be getting a knock on down sometime soon!

Nick. I think people were just intrigued to know what happening, don't think anyone was particularly worked up. So it was just some stupid football fans going for a fight in some unsuspecting pub so nothing to worry about ... bit annoying for someone trying to have a quiet drink or bite to eat for lunch, not too pleasant for the staff. I hope the thugs will be fined and made to compensate the pub and other customers? Will they be banned from matches by Chelsea and Tottenham? Actually, I have seen a fight in a Putney pub; probably about 30 years ago in the Spotted Horse, looked like it concerned someone's girlfriend and their friends separated them when it looked like it was about to get nasty ... more recently, I seem to recall the Railway closed early at short notice when it got a message that football fans were heading there for a cheap Wetherspoods pint

I think people need to understand this is football hooliganism, pre planned. Chelsea v Tottenham fans. They’ve done it a few years back in the White Horse on Parsons Green, arch enemies! They (the hooligans) pre arrange locations well away from the ground where they think the police won’t spot them or think they would be drinking. We have Fulham playing at home every other week and I’ve never seen a fight in a pub in Putney! People just need to calm down and put things into perspective.

Well Richard, as I said this was 3 0/c they were all in the High street, police vans coming from every direction.  So must have been an action replay.

Somebody posted on the next door neighbour site ...Fight started in coat and badge ,people with lots of blood all over faces,using metal chairs and tables to bludgeon people .middle aged men ,police attended quickly and in big numbers.

3 o/c today Police vans swung in front of us near Felsham Rd, then they all jumped out started running down Felsham Rd then ran back nearly knocked over their sergeant who was trying to get back in as well, then off they went. But load more vans continually coming from over the bridge into the High Street. They were riot vans. The vans were positioned so you had to stop as couldn't pass them. So we had to wait.
