Have their cake and eat it?

Not really affecting Putney, but still a national problem.  I don't see how H&M can go off to Canada whilst retaining their titles and status, yet moving into private enterprise, even if it is charity.My personal view is they should be stripped of their Sussex titles and allowed to go off to be private individuals and do their own thing. Harsh?

I know this cartoon is rather flippant and it's very sad that Harry lost his mother at such a young age in the full gaze of the public. However, I know other children who have lost parents or had othe trauma in childhood but have succeeded in the face of adversity.  I doubt, whatever happens, he'll ever end up in a burger joint struggling to make ends meet. Possibly the best thing that he and Megan might do is to get as far away from the Royal Family as they can. With his inheritance and her earnings from previous work they have no immediate financial issues unlike many on universal credits. Let's get this in perspective, I doubt whether their friends and family will ever let them sink into poverty and if push comes to shove think how the tabloids would bid for the story ...

She must find the RF stifling, especially when nobody appreciates writing jolly messages on bananas for sex workers.As a young follower of Diana, Harry's mum, she must have know something of the RF and she should have known what she signed up for.  Or not, maybe Harry was so desperate to marry that he played it down.  That's the problem with picking a nice girl from a different country and completely different culture and not giving her the "training" to be a Royal.  I guess he was afraid she'd bolt when she knew what was required..... well she's bolted now, with their baby.  Poor Harry.

Meghan made an effort to do some work here to help an encourage young women with their work prospects and there were some scathing comments and hideous and embarrassing newspaper headings.  She must find the lack of freedom and anonymity claustrophobic.

All good Scots will remind us English folk that Queen Elizabeth II of England is only Queen Elizabeth I north of the border. They never had a monarch of that name until 1952.  The union of the Crowns in 1603 brought us James I who was already James VI of Scotland and became James I of England and Ireland. The English and Scots parliaments united in 1707 (and the Irish parliament voted itself out of existence in 1801. Another fact of probably only minor interest is that Prince Charles is known as the Duke of Rothesay or the Baron of Renfrew in Scotland (though he has a vast list of other titles). On the original topic of this thread I tend to agree with Andy Pike (10th Jan 20:41) that we should give Prince Harry a bit of a break. He’s stuck between a big rock and a very hard place. Finally, Mike I agree also that it is extraordinary that this is dominating news headlines while much more important things are happening in Belfast, Teheran and, very soon no doubt, Washington DC.

I'm surprised that the Sandringham meeting is taking top spot on the BBC news over the new agreement to restart Northern Ireland's Parliament, or the arrest of the British Ambassador in Iran in breach of international conventions. What else is it distracting us from - how is the House of Lords getting on with the Withdrawal Agreement Bill?

I understand she is the Queen of the United Kingdom [of Great Britain and Northern Ireland] and other Commonwealth Realms.The Queen was Duchess of Edinburg until her accession to the throne.I thought the title of Prince of Wales related to when it was a principality. Cannot remember exactly but was it 14th or 15th century that it is a title conferred to the heir to the thrown?

On a technicality, and I could be wrong on this, but isn't the Queen separately monarch of England and Scotland? So we have a monarch of England and Wales - with a Prince of Wales- plus a monarch of Scotland? Not too sure where Northern Ireland fits in ...

Damm I haven't watched all the Suits episodes yet and people are posting the ending to the latest!Or have i got the wrong soap?Either way this keeps the headlines and newspapers full of meaningless entertainment while important stuff goes unreported.So in that respect stay or go they are doing their job of distraction.Never the less I'm still hoping the guy on the bicycle will turn up and save the day..

And you know this exactly how Sue? Personal friends with H and M are you? I have very little time for them personally but to state  she has  all the 'traits of narcissistic personality disorder' is just plain bitchy. MM is an American actress who who had no idea what she was letting herself in for  marrying  into the Royal Family and from then on pretty obviously didn't take advice offered. A shame because she received amazingly positive press initially.

Bunny has it spot on in my opinion.MM has received a lot of criticism and some bad press but it has nothing to do with her skin colour. Her hypocritical preaching and now her merching of the Royal Sussex brand (patented in December😡) has turned many against her. She exhibits all the traits of narcissistic personality disorder and her controlling nature has sucked the life out of Harry. I fear for his mental health.

I am a royalist and I do believe the monarchy is relevant today as it was in yester-year.  It is the continuity that steadies the changes that come and go.I have lived in a republic and can assure you the value of the Queen is beyond immense.  I dread to think having a head of state like Trump, Johnson....  But I also believe that the British Press should be given strict guidelines.  Their behaviour is questionable at its very minimum denominator.

Charles was always jealous of Diana's popularity. I do feel sorry for Harry because it hasn't taken long for this crisis to happen.As for being hounded by the press - so was Camilla just as much (she was hated at the time) and Kate, who received  so many insults (waity Katie) as well as her mother.  Even last year the red tops were hounding Kate about William having an affair with one of her friends. Instead of reacting she  kept calm and ignored it all. Meghan would have done well to do the same at all the s&&t thrown at her. She has either been advised badly or ignores good advice ie stop trying to play the same game as the press. Taking them to court even if they have spread lies does not work. Bit like trying to cut the head off a dragon!

I think it's the 'Royal' in the brand that may be objected to if they are  leaving the Royal Family. Capitalising on the family they have rejected  IYSWIM. Duchy Organics doesn't mention royalty.

David, this is irrelevant to the UK as well as Putney, a family squabble. Just proves - along with the way Andrew, Charles & Diana, Margaret, Philip et al have acted  over the years - how unfit for purpose a heriditary monarchy is in the 21C. I feel sorry for the Queen as she has tried to put duty first and show that a monarch can be the least worts option than, perhaps, President Blair or Cameron? As has just been said on BBC news most of this is irrelevant to the British, just useful for the tourist trade - and selling tabloids?

Non royal soldiers might be thought to be suffering from PTSD. But not allowed with this young man. Give him a break.

No Bunny I agree, has Harry really a say or is he just keeping her happy. Harry has been a Royal and knows how to behave. Is Megan just wanting her own way. I get the feeling as an American actress she thinks she is more important than our Queen. Well she will have to get over it or nobody will care anyway. Poor baby.
