Furniture board cutting?

I need a few extra shelves for a bookcase, i.e. was hoping to have some furniture board, melamine board, length of spruce...... whatever, cut to size to make shelves.I've tried Travis, Putney Builders' Merchants, Alloway, Homebase. Wickes - no luck. B&Q aren't answering the phone - not surprising as they are closing down in a couple of weeks.Any suggestions? I don't have a car, or a saw, or advanced DIY skills...

Hi Barbara, timber shops will only cut wood that they supply i am afraid, nearest is Alloway Timber who do cut MDF sheets or Ply sheets to size if you want them as shelves, but they would not cut down stuff bought elsewhere or something like a shelf if you just want it shorter etcFor that sort of thing you would need a proper carpenter who has his own saw and tools i'm afraid xx

Have you checked what's available at Ikea? I would think they'd have what you want with no cutting involved.
