Heard that Argos in Putney Exchange is closing

I have just been told that Argos in the Putney Exchange is moving to the Sainsburys in Wandsworth.  Apparently the Putney store will close from 2 November. Another shop gone...

I didnt suggest you went to Mortlake.Anyway, many Amazon items are free delivery. Went to Argos Sunday.Virtually no customers. The two staff behind the tills were both attending to one customer who was confused about a return. Told I could use the automated machines. My purchase wasn't able to be done that way, went back to the till and lost my place to another customer who was too useless to chose what he wanted from the book like everyone else and the staff member humoured him by looking for it there and then. Eventually got to my turn only to be told the item was out of stock. Maybe 25 minutes wasted standing in what was a line of one - me. The one useful thing the staff member did was to suggest I might get my product at Robert Dyas, which I did - and saved £2 into the bargain.

Yes, all stores do have click and collect but I think the Mortlake one is just click and collect. A bit like getting John Lewis purchases at Waitrose.

Townmead Rd Fulham Sainsbury's has an Argos.

@Elizabeth. Definitely convenient having one in Putney and ive always found the staff helpful.@Freddie. Ive not used the Mortlake store but I remember using one near Holborn Circus that seemed to be operating a trial of a new model to reduce staff. As fas as I know all Argos stores have click and collect options.

Walking to Putney High St avoids the delivery charge which, if it's a small item, racks up the price. I don't have a car, so going to Mortlake would be tedious.And the staff at Putney Argos have always been very friendly and helpful.

There's one in the big Richmond/Mortlake Sainsbury's too but Isn't that a click and collect rather than a full blown argos? I may be wrong.I struggle to see how they can survive with Amazon at the fore these days though. When you can get a delivery on the same day as you order it it some cases it makes the trek to a shop and then the faff of the purchase process feel like something from the stoneage.

Sainsbury's announced the other day that they were either closing Argos stores or moving them into their Sainsbury's stores. The large Sainsbury's in Garratt Lane/Southside has an Argos in store.

I use it, though I realise what I spend wouldn't keep them in business.I think there's an Argos store in Wimbledon. I wonder what its future is.As you say, another shop gone.
