Machete attack, time to arm the Police?

Personally I think that tasers should suffice, but it's about time that people breaking the law should be properly scared of the Police.  Our police system is "by consent" but I think the public would agree.

Pleased to say there were even plain clothed police officers in unmarked cars doing the rounds last night in Putney. I saw them stopping a chap on a moped. I know two police officers that live in Putney and whilst they don’t work in Putney, let’s just say they are quite excited about the future and I think we are going to see a huge crack down. These criminals aren’t going to have it easy from now!!

I think your ten years ago is more like 40 years. Policing was drastically curbed as recently as the early eighties. The days of the old bobby on the beat who knew the local bad boys is even more distant memory. The seventies at best. Getting that back is impossible in my view. The world has moved on and even more so in London.

Yes, it's a tricky question.  I imagine there would be a different type of person signing up to be a Police Officer if they were armed and then would we lose the community aspect.  Mind you, the community aspect has pretty much disappeared now, since Police numbers were cut so drastically.Call me old fashioned, but I liked it when we had visible Police in our neighbourhoods, who we knew and who knew us (especially the toerags).  I'm only going back 10 years here.

It comes down to do we want a police service or a police force.  I personally would prefer a force and l am thankful that they run towards danger allowing the public the run away.
