Restaurant recommendations

My sister is visiting me this coming weekend and I wondered what restaurants in Putney people would currently recommend. I'm in Southfields now, but used to love Emiles, Enoteca, Del Buongustaio, Phoenix, Putney Bridge, all now sadly gone.I'm rather out of touch with what has come along to replace them

Isola de sole is lovely.You could always go to enoteca turi still, they are a short walk from Sloane Square tubeSpotted horse used to be nice and it's sister restaurant the Kings Head Roehampton

I'd second Kashmir, and don't forget Ma Goa on the URR. Both good for veggies/vegans as well as meat/fish eaters.

Pata Negra for me, quality, value and run by a Putney legend Kashmir on Lacy Road for a curry with a differenceIsola Del Sol Lacy Road still a hidden secret and my wife’s favourite

I should also add Awesome Thai (Barnes) is amazing! I have to agree regarding Stein's restaurant. Depot used to be my favourite restaurant to visit: guaranteed lovely food at reasonable costs (for a special occasion).We went there the other week and the prices were eye-watering. The food was 'OK' but nothing special, felt the service wasn't great (had to be reminded to bring a wine list over, the person couldn't explain the wines, didn't explain which they didn't have).  I won't be trying it again.

We had the opposite experience at Rick Stein’s.  We went there last year to celebrate our wedding anniversary.  Our table was by the window with a river view, food was excellent, staff charming and they even decorated our dessert plates with the words “Happy Anniversary”.

Caroline: Your suggestion about Stein's restaurant reminded me that I had one of the worst meals of my life there back in May. They were given prior notice for a festive occasion, provided a poor table, gave really bad service and my dressed crab was on the turn. At the outset the champagne was warm. I wrote to Stein detailing the experience. No reply.

The White Onion in Wimbledon is excellent. For good pub food and a great location try the Dukes Head on the river or the Telegraph on Putney Heath.  When my sister was over from the US of A we took her to the Glasshouse next to Kew Gardens station.

Gazette, URR. Blades, LRR. and I would second Bistro Vadouvan.A little further afield, both Sonny's and Cote in Barnes are excellent and there is always Rick Stein where the Depot used to be.
