Landscaping scam?

FYI-Normally I do not accept work from solicitations at the door, but today I did engage a fellow to trim our ungainly hedge.  Pricing started at £120 and we settled on £50.  10 minutes later the tree/hedge was in tatters - and while he did take the big cuttings, he did leave a mess.  I'll have to finish the job properly this weekend.I have his card.  It lists a website - FClandscapingandgardening.co.uk - it does not exist, nor does his e-mail or the "Rated People" logo on the card match up with a/his business.So I put it down to a scam, shame on me.  Should have read their business name before engaging, its FC Landscaping....

Elizabeth, that made me laugh my other half who is a builder was working 3 houses away when they said my window needed painting, they said the same to me I said what house. They said the house my partner was painting the front. So I had a good laugh, your not working there.

I love the "we're working at your neighbours' so as we're in the area we can offer you a special price". I say "which neighbour?" and, of course, they can't say, or come up with an invented number in a nearby road. And I say, I don't think there are that number of houses in that road.So I say: thank you so much for thinking of me, I do appreciate it, so kind. Goodbye. Which, being interpreted is *&%! off.

I would also avoid Amigo Services who offer "gardening" services, but don't actually have gardeners.

Same as...your chimney pot has fallen off; you roof tiles are loose; your tree is rotten; your drive is full of weeds.  I'm sure there are more.I would say NEVER agree to anyone on your doorstep who offers work on your house.

Last year there were some going round saying your front window ledge needed painting charging a similar amount. They had a box number in a sweat shop in Fulham, that didn't exist. They had cards printed and were knocking on the doors in Chelverton.
